The years 1995-2000 were a glorious age for some of us. Beepers, landlines, boy bands, and most notably—the dot com boom.
Most of you will remember the days of Xanga, GeoCities, and Angelfire. Everyone could have their own webpage or blog, and as long as you knew some basic HTML you could make it look pretty notable too. But with the myriad options for domain hosting and website creation we now have, everything you knew about Dreamweaver can be burned in a trashcan fire under the wharf.
So now that your website is up, how long until you show up on the first page of Google searches? We love your enthusiasm, but let’s pump the brakes a little bit. Here’s a little Satori FAQ about “Your Website and You.”
Q: I just launched my website today, but Google can’t find me.
A: Patience, young grasshopper. According to Boostsuite it can take from 4 days to 4 weeks.
Q: Why does it take that long?
A: Each search engine (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.) needs time to index your new website.
Q: But, like, how long?
A: Go into this knowing there is no set time. Variables to take into account include site popularity, how the site is structured, and content crawlability.
Q: How can I increase these factors?
A: By doing everything we’ve ever told you! Social media, blogging, comments on blogs, and email marketing—oh my! Other factors include how your page has been built (coding and other things we consider if you allow us to create your page), and sitemaps.
Q: But my page has already been created. How can I increase this now?
A: See above.
Q: I want my website to be listed first on page 1 of Google search. How?
A: See above above.
If you have any questions, Satori’d be more than happy to help answer whatever you’ve got. And when you find out the answer is social media or email marketing, we’re happy to help you set that up too.
