This past Wednesday, the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) Office of Small Business invited Satori Marketing to do a short presentation during their “I’m Certified Now What” workshop. The workshop, attended by small businesses registered to do business with METRO, is designed to provide resources and connections for those businesses in their quest for contracts with METRO. Our presentation was about how to successfully market and position your business to get government contracts.

Because we are in the process of obtaining contracts, we have been to several events such as this one – but this was the first time we were presenting. Having attended so many workshops and seminars, we knew we had an opportunity to do something different and attention-grabbing. After all, we are a communications firm.

Instead of doing a run-of-the-mill PowerPoint with a lot of text and almost no appeal, we racked our brains for the best way to present our material in a creative way. What we decided was a little bit out-of-the-box, but we were willing to take the risk.

Our presentation explained that marketing efforts, such as branding, websites and social media, are as critical to your business’ success as your body parts are to your body and living. So we titled our presentation “Operation Branding” and modeled it after the classic board game “Operation.”

The presentation was a huge success – several small business owners, as well as members of METRO approached us after the fact to let us know how informative and memorable it was.
